[origin: EP0679476A2] The pliers (1) have a pliers housing (2) with a relatively pivoted handgrip (6), used for operating a drive which is coupled to the operating elements associated with the pliers jaw (3) at the front end of the pliers housing. The drive is assisted by a battery-operated electric motor (18) contained within the pliers housing, with the switch (25) for operating the electric motor incorporated within the handgrip. Pref. the switch is first operated when the force applied to the handgrip reaches a threshold value. <IMAGE>
