Abstract (en)
An exciter for an internal combustion engine igniter plug includes a charging circuit (104) and a discharge circuit (106). The charging circuit is connected to a power supply (108) and the discharge circuit is connected to the plug (64) to produce sparks. The discharge circuit (106) comprises a storage capacitor (38) connected to the charging circuit (104), a gated solid state switching device (33-35) connected between the capacitor (38) and the plug (64), and a trigger means for gating the switching device on and off. The capacitor is discharged when the switching device (33-35) is gated on and is charged by the charging circuit (104) after the switching device is gated off. <IMAGE>
