[origin: EP0680916A1] The collator has sets of collating positions (A,B,C) in a repeated pattern on a continuous feed. The collator is programmed to align certain collating positions with certain dispensing feeds to assemble programmed sets of printed matter e.g. to add supplements, advertising inserts etc.. The completed material sets are taken off the collator by dedicated sets of lift off systems. The completed prods. are passed to finishing stations e.g. stapling, gluing. Alternatively a single lift off station is used with a programmed sequence to distribute the prods. into the separate handling lines. <IMAGE>
