[origin: EP0681095A1] The method involves a tube section loading station (2) in which a tube mounting (8) is arranged for receipt of a tube section (12) acting as housing for an exhaust gas catalyser. At a matching station (3), a tube mounting (1) loaded with the tube section is further transferred to the tube section loading station, in which the inner cross-sectional surface of the tube section is enlargeable or reducible. A press-in station is provided in which a packet (51) comprising a catalyser body and a locating mat wound in at least one position around its peripheral surface is pressed by a press piston into the tube section (12) taken over from the matching station. <IMAGE>
