[origin: EP0683123A1] The press has two cylinders (2, 3) forming a compression gap (S) through which the paper web (B) passes. For straightening the web it has an alignment device with entry and exit rollers and web edge sensors (16, 17) to provide signals for control of an adjuster. The adjuster is a web guiding device (10) with entry roller (14) and sensor before, exit roller (15) and sensor after the pressure gap. The rollers can be displaced not only individually along their axes, in the plane of their axes, by adjustment members (18, 19) but also swivelled into an oblique position. A feed device (20) is installed upstream, in the web flow which, can be swivelled at its entry about an axis (24) fixed w.r.t. the machine frame where this axis is in a plane perpendicular to the guiding device entry roller (14) axis and intersects the feed entry roller (22) mid-point. Guiding and feed device are connected. <IMAGE>
