[origin: WO9516945A1] A process is disclosed for co-ordinating the operation of machine elements of a complex machine installation provided with a central control unit and a central power distribution unit, as well as a device for carrying out the process. Each machine element is associated to its own piloting device arranged at immediate proximity of the machine element and linked to the central control unit by a data bus; each machine element is also associated to its own power amplifier linked to the central power distribution unit. At least two machine elements are arranged with their associated piloting device and power amplifier on a part of the machine capable of rotating in relation to the machine framework. All piloting devices, as well as the central control unit, have a special opto-electronic interface. Signals are exchanged between the piloting devices and the central control unit by modulated light waves by means of a data bus constituted by a single-cable or multi-cable light guide interrupted into sections and by an optic coupler of an appropriate known type that bridges the interruptions.
