[origin: WO9419452A1] An overcap for a culture bottle to be used in microbiology has a generally cylindrical body provided all round with a generally square lateral projection (606) to facilitate handling of the bottle in use. The cap snap-fits to the bottle seal and has a tear-off portion (604) which when torn off exposes the septum. On the upper surface of the lateral projection is a machine-readable barcode (616) for bottle identification, and an LED port (618) which imparts cap identification and tactile and visual asymmetry to facilitate orientation of the bottle in a multiple bottle carrier in use.
