[origin: WO9419776A1] The invention relates to a device for compacting recyclable packages, such as beverage cans or bottles, which comprises an infeed unit, a checking unit and a compacting unit. The novelty of the invention is that the compacting unit comprises a fixed, rigid wall (32), a movable, rigid wall (34) as well as means for displacing the movable wall (34) towards the fixed wall (32), the walls (32, 34) being substantially parallel also during the displacement of the movable wall (34) towards the fixed wall (32).
