A device for forming-transferring rows of packets, in particular cigarette packets, for example for packing a predetermined number of packets in a package, comprises conveyor means (3, 4) for supplying individual packets (P) to a station (5, 5', 6, 6', 7) for compacting the packets in a row (F) of packets (P) which are pressed against one another; a lateral aperture (10) for discharging at least part of the said row (F) of a predetermined length and a transverse stop (11) for aligning the said row (F) with the discharge aperture (10), as well as means for thrusting the row (F) of a predetermined length transversely through the discharge aperture (10). Between the compacting station (5, 5', 6, 6', 7) and the alignment stop (10) or the discharge aperture (10), there is a distance such that at the discharge aperture (10), the row (F) of a predetermined length is always spaced from the row (F) formed or being formed in the compacting station (5, 5', 6, 6', 7). <IMAGE>
