[origin: WO9517342A1] A low speed running mechanism (1S, 2S, 3S) of a plurality of stages comprising feeding rollers (3, 4), a conveyor belt (107) and a conveyor belt (108) is connected from diagonally above to a horizontal running portion (5) of a high speed conveyor mechanism comprising a number of steps (1) connected to each other. A main leading hand rail (1L) adapted to be driven so as to run faster by a predetermined speed than the high speed conveyor mechanism is disposed at least on one side and upwardly of and in parallel with the high speed conveyor mechanism. Furthermore, subleading hand rails (1Sc, 2Sc) adapted to be driven so as to run substantially in parallel with and faster than the low speed running mechanism are disposed on one side and upwardly of the low speed running mechanism. A material having a great friction coefficient relative to the shoe sole is selected for use as the tread of the step (1).
