[origin: EP0685576A1] The electrode array receives its main current supply over rod or bar conductors, via spaced, flat, current distributors set on edge. The active electrodes are also set on edge, and connected to the distributors above, running at right angles to them. They are closer to each other, with at least 2 mm clearance, and are more numerous, than the distributors. The side surfaces (6) of the active electrodes (2) have recesses (3), extending from the lower (14), to the upper edges (4). <IMAGE>
