Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9513744A1] A footpad monitor to detect the amount of force translated through a patient's heel in each gait cycle is described. The footpad monitor has a tactile force sensor (22), a linearized bridge (20) for translating a force applied to the sensor (22) to a voltage, a comparator circuit (30) and an annunciator (40). The comparator (30), which can be analog or microprocessor controlled, has a set point and an amplifier (39) that is activated when the voltage from the sensor (22) exceeds the set point. The annunciator (40) is driven by the amplifier (39) to warn the patient that excessive force is being translated through the heel. In the analog embodiment, the reference voltage can be varied by adjusting linearly variable pots (35, 36). Also described is a remote unit to set the set point limit in the microprocessor controlled embodiment.
