[origin: EP0686989A1] A bistable relay has a pivot-mounted armature (4) that is hinged to a yoke (1) by a leaf spring (5)l The free end supports a rod (11) that operates a movable electrical contact (13). Mounted on the yoke is a core element in two parts (6, 6') separated by a permanent magnet (7) and having a size such that an air gap (20) is formed. The armature can be moved by a lower level power input coil (2). In one position the armature is held by the permanent magnet field. <IMAGE>
