[origin: WO9519306A1] A garbage container (1) has a lid (2) to which a steel sheet (22) is fastened, for example with rivets. The steel sheet (22) extends downwards into a lock (27), where it is subdivided into two tongues (23, 24). A guide (29) is arranged between both tongues (23, 24). The lock (27) is partially located underneath the edge of the garbage container (1), designed as a holding cog (9), and has a swivelling lever (31) that forms its single movable part and whose top end is designed as a ratchet (30). The ratchet (30) engages an anchor (26) that forms the bottom end of the right tongue (24). The ratchet may be pulled away from the anchor (26) against the force of a spring (34) either by rotating a lock cylinder (36) which presses an eccentric (37) against the swivelling lever (31) or by a force that presses upwards against a lug (41) on the swivelling lever. The spring (34) lies between a projection (33) on the swivelling lever and a stop (32) on the lock (27). The lock (27) surrounded by a frame (28) may also be opened by a square spanner to be inserted into a square hole (40), instead of the lock cylinder. The force that presses the lug (41) upwards is the weight of the garbage container suspended on the cog at the edge of the filling opening of the garbage truck.
