Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9518054A1] The invention concerns a method of continuously feeding flat articles, such as envelopes (K), to a machine for processing. The articles are stacked on one edge on a forwards-inclined baseplate (4) and supported at the front by a support plate (5) the top of which is lower than the top edges of the articles in the stack. Mounted above the support plate (5), in the plane of the plate, is a conveyor belt (6) designed to convey the articles downwards and fitted with conveyor elements (7) which act in the direction of motion of the belt. These conveyor elements (7) engage with the upper edge of the articles, pushing them down through a slit (9) between the baseplate (4) and the support plate (5). The articles are subsequently taken over by a conveyor belt (13) which carries them round a guide roller to turn them into a horizontal position and then conveys them to the end (2) of the device where they are inserted in the bottom of a stack. The height of this second stack is limited to a level suitable for removal of the stack by switching the device off automatically at suitable intervals. The conveyor elements (7) act on the stack of articles in rapid succession, each one engaging with a separate article.
