[origin: EP0688584A1] A multi-functional physical exercise apparatus includes a small rod (24) on which a large hollow rod (14) is sleeved slidably. A first cover unit (40) is connected to the rod (14), while a second cover unit (40a) is connected to the rod (24). Each cover unit (40,40a) is provided with a self-supporting unit (44,44a). A coiled spring (30) is sleeved on and coupled to the rods (14,24) and is located between the cover units (40,40a). A small hollow first cylinder (10) is sleeved on the spring (30) and extends from the cover unit (40). A small hollow second cylinder (20) is sleeved on the spring (30) and extends from the cover unit (40a). A large hollow cylinder (50) is sleeved rotatably on and is movable relative to the cylinders (10,20). The cylinder (50) has an annular outer surface provided with a plurality of massaging projections (53), an open first end provided with an inwardly extending flange member (51) which contacts slidably an outer surface of the cylinder (10) and which engages at least one outwardly extending engaging member (12) provided at a distal end of the cylinder (10), and an open second end provided with an inwardly extending flange member (61) which contacts slidably an outer surface of the cylinder (20) and which engages at least one outwardly extending engaging member (22) provided at a distal end of the cylinder (20). <IMAGE>
