[origin: EP0688954A1] An obstruction is formed by an oscillating piston (8), which acts upon a pump membrane (1) by hydraulic fluid. A spring loaded relief valve prevents excessive suction, by permitting hydraulic fluid to flow from the supply volume (9) to the pressurised volume (7). The piston acts as a control slide, releasing the connection to the relief valve only after at least part of the suction stroke has been completed. The connection may be released if the piston has completed approximately half of its stroke, or may be kept closed for at least the start of the stroke. <IMAGE>
