Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0689217A1] The circuit breaker includes an evacuated ampoule consisting of a main envelope (40) closed by two end plates (42,44) within which three contacts (46,47,48) are lodged to extend axially. Two of these contacts (46,47) include a disc shaped contact region and are solidly attached to the two end plates respectively. The third contact consists of a rod (48) mounted to slide within the second fixed contact (47). The rod is held in contact with the first fixed contact (46) for a sufficiently long time to generate an electric arc between the two contacts (46,47), in order than to break the circuit between the two fixed contacts. The ampoule is mounted within a container (12) filled with sulphur hexafluoride with main contacts and a control mechanism. <IMAGE>
