[origin: DE4308899C1] The locking method uses coded radio, light or ultrasonic signals (1, 2, 3) transmitted between a hand-held remote-control transmitter (S) acting as a key and a transmitter (E) incorporated in the vehicle lock. The signals exhibit alternating codes, the initial signal (1) fed from the transmitter modulated at the receiver using a given algorithm, with verification of the signal code (n) to allow a response signal (2) to be fed back to the transmitter which is modulated by a second code (x). This is evaluated upon reception by the transmitter, to transmit a third signal (3) modulated by a further code (y). The lock is only operated when the third code is verified. ADVANTAGE - Increased lock security.
