[origin: WO9421996A1] A package (10), particularly for foodstuffs, is tested for leaks by applying pressure to the package (10) and detecting ultrasonic emissions caused by leaking gas by use of a detector (16). Those ultrasonic emissions which are caused by gas leaking from the package are identified in a processor (18).
