[origin: EP0690180A2] The component has uprights (1) joined by horizontal cross-bars (2). Each of the latter comprises two profiled metal sections (3,4) joined to each other by an insulating rib (5). The uprights and bars accommodate a panel, pane of glass etc. between them. Uprights separating adjacent panels are cut away (6) or omitted altogether, the space so formed accommodating an insulating component (7) extending over several panels. The cutaway portions can extend for the whole distance between adjacent cross-bars, and they can be provided in the panels installed at the parapet. All the uprights in a horizontal row of panels can be cut away, and the cut away portion can be in the portion of the uprights towards the inside of the facade. <IMAGE>
