[origin: EP0690204A2] Seals (Wa,Wb) are provided between the turbine housing (TG) and the rotor shaft (TW) at the fresh-steam inlet (FD) and exhaust-steam outlet (AD). These seal off separate chambers (DRa,DRb) supplied with equal pressure below atmospheric by an equalisation pipe (AG). The seals are designed so that gas flow for lubrication can take place through them into the housing from the external atmosphere. The pattern of the seal working surfaces can match the flow through them from the atmosphere. At the fresh-steam side, there can be a piston-type equalising seal (Wc), also with slip-ring. <IMAGE>
