[origin: WO9421504A1] A novel, fully-automatable, portable, optical alarm installation for work gangs is disclosed, as well as a central unit therefor and a flash lighting arrangement for warning track-workers of the approach of a rail vehicle. When a train approaches, track-workers must clear the track. For that purpose, an appropriate warning installation which may be perceived at all times by the workers and is reliable in operation is required. For that purpose, a work gang warning installation is equipped with a central unit connected to the mains supply or to an accumulator. The central unit has a control logic, for example a signal receiver for detecting signals from a signal generator, as well as a computer, for example, and a modem for driving regular and faulty operation warning displays and for monitoring the energy supply, completed by a number of warning displays arranged along the work site. Faulty operation warning displays are installed at the central unit itself and comprise at least one flash lighting arrangement. If required, the flash lighting arrangements are also equipped with a computer, a data transmission modem and their own energy supply, for example an accumulator. The warning displays may be positioned along the work site in a manner dependent on the type of work site, so that a clear display with corresponding flash lights gives an unmistakable, easy to identify optical warning.
