The section (18) of the patient support surface joined to the support (10) comprises a bottom (30) and a top (32) plate joined to the other sections (20,22,24) of the patient-support surface (16). The bottom plate is in the form of a closed box (50,52) containing a drive mechanism (54) for adjusting the top plate. The drive mechanism comprises an electric motor connected to a transmission (8) positioned in the bottom plate for transmitting electrical energy between the support surface and the support. The top plate is connected to at least one driven element (46) in the bottom plate and engaging with a drive element (76) driven by the electric motor. <IMAGE>

Eine Patientenlagerfläche (16) eines Operationstisches, die aus mehreren miteinander verbundenen Lagerflächenabschnitten (18, 20, 22, 24) besteht und im Bereich eines dieser Abschnitte mit einer Stützeinrichtung (10) lösbar verbindbar ist, ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der mit der Stützeinrichtung (10) verbindbare Lagerflächenabschnitt (18) einen mit der Stützeinrichtung (10) koppelbaren unteren Plattenteil (30) und einen an diesem translatorisch verstellbar geführten oberen Plattenteil (32) umfaßt, der mit den übrigen Abschnitten (20, 22, 24) der Lagerfläche (16) verbunden ist, wobei der untere Plattenteil (30) in Form eines abgeschlossenen Kastens ausgebildet ist, in dem eine Antriebseinrichtung für die Verstellung des oberen Plattenteiles (32) angeordnet ist. <IMAGE>
