Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2277044A] Swarf is removed from drilling mud by outward flour filtration through at least one filter drum rotating about an inclined axis. As shown the mud is fed into the inner drum 52 and flows through perforations 56 therein and then through outer drum 54, which is of finer aperture size. Drums 52, 54 are independently driven at variable speeds in one or opposite directions. A blade between the drums cuts any swarf pieces projecting through perforations 56. The swarf is discharged into container 70 from the lower end of the drums, whose inclination is adjustable. The mud which has been filtered may be fed to a tank from which it overflows as a thin stream down an inclined plate (Fig. 5) where a moving magnetic belt (108) picks up any remaining metal particles. <IMAGE>
