Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0692328A1] The method concerns production of finish castings with use of aluminium alloys with 0.15-1.0 % iron and other impurities as the starting material. This material is cast into a blank with fine-grained structure. The blank is then subjected to heat treatment at temperature close to the solidus point for purposes of growing and rounding its grains. Finally, the blank thus heated is liquefied under pressure and cast to produce a finish casting. The grain size of the blank material varies from 0.02 to 0.3 mm, and pref. from 0.03 to 0.15 mm. During heat treatment of the blank, which takes place inductively, the grain growth varies from a minimum of 20% to a maximum of 70%. The pressure is applied in the filling chamber of a high-pressure die-casting machine by means of a piston.
