[origin: EP0692450A1] The saddle is made with a slot (16) passing through it transversely beneath the upper surface (18) of the seat to act as a guide for a girth or belly-band. One or two slots can be employed, situated above the surface of the saddle pad (8) and limited at the top by lengthwise straps fixed to the saddle bow frame and at the bottom by two lengthwise bands. Spacers hold the appropriate gaps between the upper and lower surfaces of the slot(s), which are covered with a material ensuring a suitable degree of slip and retention for the girth/belly-band straps. <IMAGE>
