[origin: WO9522120A1] A device including a document feed roller (1) and an image sensor (4) interacting therewith to read data on the documents delivered by the roller. The image sensor includes a light source (6) for illuminating documents (D), and a row of light-sensitive elements (9) for reading data from the light transmitted by the source and reflected off the documents. The housing (5) of the image sensor (4) is open on the side (8) facing the feed roller (1) and comprises members (14, 17) for holding the documents against the roller (1), said housing further being reciprocally angularly movable relative to said roller (1) between a roller-engaging position in which the documents are read without rubbing against the image sensor at the point where the light from the source (6) impinges on the documents, and a document feeding position in which it is spaced apart from said roller.
