[origin: EP0695562A2] An object (2) is protected by arrays of nozzles (5) overhead and on all sides, through which inert gas is sprayed on to the object from a high-pressure line (6) supplied from bottles (8) via a regulator (9). This protection reinforces the high-pressure water-spraying installation (12) in which a reservoir (16) and control valve (17) feed a ring (14) of outlets (18) forming a fine spray curtain (20). When this curtain is complete around the central region, the inert gas is delivered as a conical spray (10). The valves are controlled (25) in response to signals from a smoke or flame detector (26).
