Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9425738A1] A sealing arrangement is disclosed for a duct (1) through a stationary housing (4) crossed by a shaft (3) having an axis (2). The housing (4) encloses an inner chamber (5) capable of receiving a fluid and out of which the shaft (3) extends. The sealing arrangement has a vapours chamber (7) which surrounds the shaft (3), extends along the axis (2) on both sides of gaskets (6) and may receive the fluid through at least one of the gaskets (6). The vapours chamber (7) is open to the environment and is connected to a suction device (8). The fluid which reaches the vapours chamber (7) is totally sucked off, with the exception of a residue which is evacuated into the environment. The environmental impact may thus be considerably reduced, and an effective operation control may be carried out by monitoring the residue evacuated into the environment. This sealing arrangement is particularly suitable for a duct (1) arranged for a shaft (3) through a steam turbine (16). Also disclosed is a process for operating this sealing arrangement.
