[origin: WO9522453A1] In discontinuously operating filter presses (1), a further rise in the pressure owing to the time cycle of the discharge behaviour of the liquid pressed out is limited. The limitation instances are detected by a process controller (24) as those at which momentary or mean discharge rates or accelerations reach maxima. Troublesome rated value presettings or experimental values can thus be avoided. The press runs in an automatic optimising process at the pressures and times at which the pressure rise is to be limited with reference to the actual process parameters and targets.
