[origin: EP0697283A2] Before the damp applicator roller (3) is placed against the damping roller (1) which supplies the damping medium, the damping roller is driven at such a speed that its circumferential speed coincides with that of the damp applicator roller (3). The speed for driving the damping roller (1) supplying the damping medium is determined from a preselectable basic speed for starting up the offset printing machine. After the input of the command for setting the applicator roller against the damping roller the latter is first accelerated to the proposed speed and then the applicator roller is moved time delayed up to the damping roller.
