[origin: EP0949147A1] An apparatus for making a modified atmosphere package includes a plurality of packaging stations. A rotary conveyor is provided for moving trays from one station to the next. The rotary conveyor has a platform which carries a plurality of trays. One of the packaging stations is adapted to load the trays on to the platform. Another station is adapted for loading a food product into the trays. A further station is adapted to unload the trays from the platform. An apparatus is provided for replacing the ambient atmosphere in the trays with an atmosphere reduced in oxygen content before the trays are covered with a film.
