Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9426997A1] A sheet metal covering strip (10; 110; 210; 310) is disclosed, in particular for buildings or the like. In order to create a sheet metal covering strip which is easy to produce, which may be easily bordered without tools in one or several predetermined, substantially linear areas and which is otherwise stiff and may be laid with an overlapping section on a similar sheet metal covering strip, so as to prolong it, the sheet metal covering strip (10; 110; 210; 310) consists in at least one preferably longitudinal narrow area (12; 112; 212; 312) of a material of less resistance and higher breaking elongation than the material in the adjacent areas (26, 28; 126, 128; 226, 228; 326, 328) of the sheet metal covering strip (10; 110; 210; 310). The narrow area(s) of the disclosed sheet metal covering strip may be made of another metal, another metal alloy or of the same metal but with a different structure than the remaining areas, or of a non-metallic material such as plastics. The material of the narrow areas may be joined in a water-tight manner to the material of the adjacent areas, for example by overlapping. Areas having different structures may be obtained by cold forming or by softening in a strip made of a uniform metallic raw material. The flexibility of the sheet metal varies from area to area. The narrow areas have less resistance and higher breaking elongation than the adjacent areas and constitute predetermined bending lines.
