[origin: EP0699479A1] The surface amour is in the form of spaced protruding pins which are welded to the roll surface (12), and form pockets (17) between them for accommodation of pressed fine grained materials. The pins are made up of two parts (13,14) bonded to one another. The part (13) is made of a material which can be easily welded to the roll surface (12), while the part (14), which serves for the protection of the part (13), is made of hard material.
