Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0699971A2] A developing device includes a toner container 3, which can be mounted and dismounted and includes a toner replenishment roller 21 controlled for rotation according to a detection signal of a toner concentration sensor 15. A shutter 30 is rotatable along the outer periphery of the toner replenishment roller 21 for opening and closing an opening 23. At least one shutter opening end 304 is in frictional contact with roller periphery, thus permitting stable mounting and dismounting of the toner container 3 with respect to a developer container 2 in a simple operation. The toner container comprises a replenishment toner accommodating section and a waste toner recovery section formed at a longitudinal end of the accommodating section via a partitioning wall. The volume ratio between the replenishment toner accommodating section and the waste toner recovery section is set such that no overflow of waste toner occurs. A toner accommodation space 35A is formed by an inclined wall 35 extending substantially downward from the toner replenishment roller mounting portion 29 of the replenishment toner accommodating section such that replenishment toner in it can be pulled up onto the toner replenishment roller mounting portion 29 with the rotation of a toner agitating fin 28a, 28b. It is thus possible to provide a suitable layout structure of a toner container 3 having an integral waste toner recovery section for accommodating waste toner after toner image formation. <MATH>
