[origin: EP0702109A2] A coating (4) is continuously applied to a material line (3) with an elastic doctor blade (1) which is attached at one end (5) to a clamp (8) and which presses against the material (3) at the other end (9). The doctor blade (1) is vibrated for a pre-determined time at a pre-determined amplitude and frequency in the region between the clamp (8) and the application line, either at pre-determined time intervals, or whenever deposits on the doctor blade (1) cause changes in the surface of the coating (4).
