[origin: WO9428243A1] The invention relates to a process for the treatment of a cellulosic material wherein said material is coated with a coating agent comprising: a) poly(vinyl alcohol); b) a non-spherical particulate filler; and c) a cross-linking agent, the weight percentages being 30-70 % of a), 70-30 % of b) and at most 7 % of c), and subjecting the coated material to a curing operation so as to form a cross-linked barrier layer onto said cellulosic material. The invention also relates to a coated material obtained by means of said coating agent as well as to the coating agent per se and the use of the coated material as a waste paper for direct recycling to a pulper.
