[origin: EP0703018A1] The press (1), in particular, for forming and drawing operations incorporates a press ram with a top tool half and a press table with a bottom tool half. The blank holding force between the tool halves - in the case where the press is a single-action press - is adjustable by means of a pressure control unit. The pressure control unit (5, 9) or (6, 10) controls the pressure supplied to a pressure cheek (4) which in the press table (2) acts on the bottom tool half. A pressure oscillation is superimposed on the predetermined blank holding force in such a way that the latter is alternatingly increased and decreased during the forming/drawing process. Alternatively, the press may be provided with a pressure control unit for controlling the force exerted by the press ram on the top tool half.
