[origin: EP0703077A1] The device contains a strip gripping device with a downstream separation and holding device between the last print mechanism and the drier. A strip tear detector (21) activates the strip gripping device (5) and the separation and holding device. The tear detector is a sensor which contactlessly scans the print medium (4) and which drives a controller (22). The controller activates the strip gripping device and, after a slight delay, activates the separation and holding device. The controller contains a time delay element for activation of the separation and holding device.
