[origin: EP0704242A2] Toothed rack (21) can be coupled to the pipette plunger and includes a retraction lever (16), while a catch (22) elastically pressed against the rack can be moved repeatedly through a distance defined by a stop (19) by an actuating member (15) biased towards its initial position by a return spring (26). A control part (24) comprising a rotatable sleeve with steps (30) at the base covering the rack allows the catch to engage the rack only during part of its travel path. An adjustment part (27) allows the control member to be located in one of several positions. At the top of te sleeve are limit stops (40) corresp. to the steps at the base which define the plunger upward travel to a whole number multiple of the plunger step length plus a safety allowance where necessary.
