[origin: WO9428323A1] An air bearing (1) is described having an improved non-circular aerodynamic form comprising a bearing surface (2) which when developed into a flat plane is in a shallow sinusoidal contour having three peaks (3). These peaks (3) are located on a major diameter (4), while intermediate bearing surfaces between the peaks lie on a minor diameter (5). A cylindrical shaft (6) rotates about an axis (7) passing through the centre of the bearing (1). In one embodiment the wave peaks are arranged at 120 DEG to an adjacent peak (3), the top peak being formed with a groove (8) extending longitudinally parallel to the bearing central axis (7).
