[origin: EP0705551A1] The device comprises a bracket plate (12) fixed to the wall and having a changing surface (22) swingably attached to it about a rotary axis (26). In the unused position, the changing surface rests parallel to the plate and it rests at right angles to the plate in the used position. A securing device (32) is provided between the plate and the changing surface and comprises a holding element (34) which is at least partly elastic in the longitudinal direction and arranged at one side of the plate. One end (38,38') of the holding element is fastened to the plate whilst the other end is fastened to the adjacent corner areas (44) of the surface about the rotary axis. The holding element is guided by the section between each end of the deflecting area (42,42') above the rotary axis. The corners of the changing surface in the unused position of its upper half and in the used position of its lower half lie in a horizontal plane with the rotary axis.
