[origin: EP0705692A1] When making the printed copies with the ink applied relatively evenly across the printing direction the friction rollers forming the inking rollers are set to the full stroke required each time. When making printed copies with the ink applied in greatly differing strengths across the printing direction or during a temporary break in printing, the stroke of at least the first friction roller which follows the ink box roller, is reversed to a low value close to O when the printer continues. The axial stroke of the friction roller is produced through an eccentrically off-set roller which is mounted on the axial stud of the friction roller and which can move between two parallel running faces provided on the machine side frame.
