[origin: DE4436935C1] The vacuum cleaner has an impact protection rail (5) extending around at least part of the sidewall (10) of the vacuum cleaner housing, provided by an elastic carrier part (17), fitting in a reception recess provided by the vacuum cleaner housing and a broader outer cover (18) of a flexible material. The carrier part is coupled to an air supply with at least one air flow path leading to the cover which allows passage of the supplied air. Pref. the cover is made of a textile material and the carrier part is made of plastics foam, the impact protection rail fitted between upper and lower parts of the vacuum cleaner housing.
