[origin: EP0706841A1] The distance of the cleaning brush roll from the surface of e.g the strip roll is measured by a laser device acting on the triangulation principle or by using an ultrasonic measuring unit, mounted on a common frame with the cleaning roll. The frame moves parallel to the roll axis and perpendicular to its surface. Positioning cylinders or spindles adjust the distance of the cleaning roll to the surface, the displacement is measured by a transducer system. The measuring system determine the cleaning roll diameter at a particular position and a computer corrects its position accordingly. <
