[origin: EP0708197A2] Use is claimed of hydroxybenzotriazoles of formula (I) in increasing the sun protection factor of cellulose-fibres. R1 and R2 = H, 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy, halogen, OH, NO2, sulpho or carboxy; R3 = H or 1-4C alkyl opt. substd. by 1-4C alkoxy, halogen, OH, sulpho, CN, carboxy, 1-4C alkylcarbonyloxy, 1-4C alkoxycarbonyl, carbamoyl or sulphamoyl; A = phenylene or naphthylene (each opt. substd. by 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy, sulpho or halogen), or 1-12C alkylene (opt. substd. by halogen, OH, CN, sulphato, carboxy, 1-5C alkoxycarbonyl, 1-4C alkanoyloxy or carbamoyl and opt. interrupted with -O- or -NR'-(R'=H or 1-6C alkyl) from C2 and opt. branched from C3 and opt. with R' forming a ring with the alkylene); B = -O- or -N(R4)-(R4 = H or 1-4C alkyl) or forms a gp.-(CH2)n-NH- (where n = 1-4) over the N in the triazine ring; X= Cl; F; pyridyl opt. substd. by halogen, sulpho, carboxy, carbamoyl or 1-4C alkyl, the alkyl itself opt. being substd. by OH or sulpho; -NR5R6 with R5 and R6 = H, 1-4C alkyl (opt. substd. by 1-4C alkoxy, Cl, OH, sulph(at)o, carboxy or phenyl), phenyl (opt. substd. by 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy, halogen, sulpho or carboxy), naphthyl (opt. substd. by 1-4C alkyl or aloxy, Cl, OH, sulpho or carboxy) or benzyl (opt. ring-substd. by 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy, Cl or sulpho); or -OR7 with R7 as per R5 and R6; and Z = vinyl or beta-haloethyl, -sulphatoethyl, -thiosulphato-ethyl, -phosphato-ethyl, or -acetoxyethyl.
