Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0708305A2] The protection system uses a decoy charge of a combustible material, which is launched from the ship, with simultaneous combustion and deployment of the decoy material to provide a decoy target cloud with a higher IR intensity than the ship. This is detected by the missile target seeking head so that the missile is steered off course. The decoy charge includes an electromagnetic radiation device which is activated upon the charge being fired, for reliable diversion of the missile seeking head onto the false target. The device may be provided by a pyrotechnic charge, a light, or a gas generator.
