[origin: EP0709515A1] The drive unit is for a household laundry dryer with a horizontally rotating laundry drum, which can be driven in one direction or in reverse by a back gear pinion. The pinion (10) is connected to a large belt pulley (9) in a torsion-resistant manner and mounted on a joint axis (8). The pinion (10), in turn, is driven via a back gear belt by the motor pinion (19) of an electric drive motor. The joint axis (8) is guided in a way that permits it to move in an axially parallel manner and is spring loaded in relation to the motor pinion (19) axis and to the drum axis (5).
