[origin: EP0712179A1] The adapter includes a socket (B) with a hollow cylinder (13) and a device (14) which presses the hollow cylinder together. The adapter also includes a plug (S) with an outer cylinder (11) with a projecting ridge (12). The plug and socket are designed to fit together. The projecting ridge contacts the inner wall of the hollow cylinder when inserted into a socket of the same type as in the adapter. The hollow cylinder and projecting ridge are both mechanical and electrical contacts.
